Next Tuesday, Revere Public School (RPS) students will receive free backpacks filled with supplies as part of an ongoing partnership between the City of Revere and Amazon. This initiative aims to support students as they prepare for the upcoming school year, ensuring that they have the necessary tools to succeed in their education.
The back-to-school celebration event at Revere High School’s gymnasium on School Street will kick off at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, and the first 600 students will receive their brand-new backpacks. To qualify for a backpack, school supplies, or a helmet, you must be an RPS student accompanied by a parent, guardian, or caregiver. The backpacks and helmets will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Revere Police Department (RPD) will also be joining the event by donating 300 bike helmets as part of their community safety efforts. RPD bike safety events are held to promote safe cycling practices and raise awareness about bicycle safety.
Mayor Patrick Keefe, Superintendent Dr. Dianne Kelly, and Amazon’s New England Economic Development Representative Jonathan Greeley will all be on hand and encourage RPS families to take advantage of this opportunity.
"A backpack stuffed with school supplies goes a long way for many Revere families," said Mayor Keefe. “We want to thank Amazon for their donation and continued collaboration with the City of Revere."
Superintendent Kelly said RPS is incredibly grateful for Amazon’s generosity and commitment to supporting Revere students and educators.
“Their support, along with the Revere Police Department’s contribution, ensures that our students start the school year with the tools they need for success,” she said. “This partnership is a shining example of how collaboration can make a considerable difference in the lives of RPS families."
Jerome Smith, head of Community Engagement in New England and Canada for Amazon, added, "We're grateful and proud to partner with the City of Revere and Revere Public Schools to provide backpacks and essential supplies, helping students and families focus on what matters most—learning—as they prepare for another successful academic year."
