Over 100 Caregivers Turnout For Monthly Family Engagement

Over 100 caregivers and their children turned out last week for Revere Public School's (RPS) Office of Equity and Inclusion’s monthly Family Engagement Night. The event provided a welcoming space for families to connect, share experiences, and learn about available resources. Attendees participated in various activities designed to foster community and support, ensuring that everyone felt included and valued.

Both the Revere Housing Authority and The Haven Project returned to RPS last week to once again provide crucial information about public housing, teen homelessness, transitional housing, and rapid rehousing programs. These resources are vital for families facing housing challenges, as they offer practical solutions and support systems. By continuing to engage with community organizations, the Office of Equity and Inclusion aims to empower families and ensure that all members of the community have access to the assistance they need.

Last time the two agencies presented at an RPS Family Engagement Night, over a dozen families received help and support and were able to secure housing or financial assistance for housing. This month's event continued that momentum, fostering a welcoming environment where families could ask questions and connect with resources. Attendees expressed gratitude for the guidance provided, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in building a stronger, more inclusive community.

Revere Housing Authority provides housing assistance to low-income residents through the management of HUD programs such as Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) and state programs such as State Public Housing and the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program.

These programs are income-based, and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD or DHCD, respectively. There may be waiting lists for rentals or vouchers, and at times the lists may close to new applicants based on the size of and length of wait on the lists.

The Haven Project is a nonprofit north of Boston dedicated specifically to providing age-appropriate services to a growing, vulnerable 17–24-year-old homeless young adult population.

The agency’s Transitional Housing and Rapid Re-Housing (TH/RRH) program provides young adults experiencing homelessness with safe, stable housing and the resources needed to achieve long-term stability. With eight transitional housing units and over 16 Rapid Re-Housing vouchers, the program offers flexible options tailored to participants' unique needs. Transitional housing serves as a stepping stone, while Rapid Re-Housing provides time-limited assistance and case management to help participants secure and maintain permanent housing.

The program is funded through the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) grant, which supports innovative, youth-focused housing solutions. Designed with input from youth with lived experience, the program is inclusive, relevant, and responsive to participants’ realities. Holistic support—including life skills training, employment and educational guidance, and community connections—ensures that participants are equipped to build independence and thrive in the long term.
